Mr Moorsom arrived in this Colony in the latter part of 1867 having been then appointed by the Home Government to the office of Surveyor General in this Island.
This Office has however very recently been abolished, and Mr Moorsom, having accepted the appointment which he is now about to assume, finds himself called upon to incur another heavy outlay on his removal hence.
Owing to the unexpectedly short period of his service here, he has, he states, been unable to make any provision for this contingency, and is quite unprepared to meet the expense of removal.
Under these circumstances he applied for an advance of $300, repayable by monthly instalments out of the first year's salary of his new appointment, and with this application the Governor has been pleased to comply.
I am directed to notify you of the above circumstance, and I would beg to suggest that the Crown Agents should be informed quarterly of the deductions which are made from Mr Moorsom's salary in repayment of this advance which would on your Certificate be by them credited to this Colony and charged against the Government of ...
